Primary Years Grades 1-6
All students in first through sixth grade receive instruction by qualified, motivated and experienced staff members in Art, Character Development, Computer, Handwriting, Language, Leadership Skills, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Reading, Religious Studies, Science, Spanish and Social Studies. The Bahamas Ministry of Education Curriculum is used and students are able to sit the Grade Level Examination (G.L.A.T) examinations in grades 3 and 6. Additionally, our students are exposed to international content and standards that prepare them for the real world. Our scholars may be enrolled in After-School Programs to ensure that special emphasis is placed on literacy and numeracy as well as balance of interest areas.
The Houghton Mifflin & Harcourt Journeys curriculum coupled with the Oxford English for Cambridge Curriculum provides a well-balanced and rigorous reading and language curriculum that peaks students interest in reading through exciting text. They are both research-based curricula that guide young readers to gain a curiosity about the world and therefore a passion for reading both fiction and informational text. Our Primary Students use Everyday Mathematics, which provides relevant mathematical experiences along with tools and manipulatives that help to make math interesting and practical. All other textbook information is available upon request.
